This web page is the home page for the Tokyo Hy-Power reflector (mailing list) currently located on Yahoo! Groups. It should not be confused with the official Tokyo Hy-Power Labs website. The reflector is for people who enjoy and use Tokyo Hy-Power Labs amateur radio equipment. THP equipment, though still popular in Europe and Japan, was not imported into the United States between November, 1993 and April, 2006. Many older transceivers, amplifiers, antenna tuners, transverters, and accessories are still in daily use and many U.S. and Canadian hams have gone to the trouble and expense of directly importing the Tokyo Hy-Power equipment during the 12½ years they were out of the North American market.

HL-100BDX amplifier for QRP rigsProbably the most popular piece of THP equipment today is the HL-100BDX, an HF and 6 meter amplifier for QRP transceivers. The amp is designed for no more than 5 or 10 watts input (switchable) and 100 watts output. The HL-100B is the perfect match for many popular QRP transceivers including the Yaesu FT-817ND and the Icom IC-703Plus. The amp is very small and lightweight.

HT=750 triband SSB/CW HTAnother item that was extrememly for them 12 years it was in production (1992-2004) is the unique HT-750, 6, 15, and 40 meter SSB/CW handheld transceiver, pictured at left. This unit was briefly sold in the U.S. in 1993. The HT-750 was discontinued in early 2004 with THP currently considering producing a new 6-80m HT to replace it at some time in the future. The HT-750 is still a favorite of QRP/portable operators, since it weighs slightly less and lasts longer on batteries than Yaesu's feature-rich FT-817ND portable. The HT-750 features a remarkable receiver which would be good by any standard, but is truly amazing in a handheld.

This site exists for two reasons: to promote the Tokyo Hy-Power reflector, an e-mail English language discussion list for hams the world over who enjoy THP equipment, and to provide at least some information about older THP equipment in English that is not generally available on the company's official website. As time goes on, I hope to expand and improve on this site, and make it a really useful resource to all English-speaking THP enthusiasts.

REFLECTOR FAQ

HL-63u linear amplifierThe Tokyo Hy- Power reflector exists to be a forum for discussion about all aspects of Tokyo Hy-Power equipment. This includes technical discussions and help, operating information, buying, selling, and trading of Tokyo Hy-Power equipment, and the occasional discussion of similar equipment, such as Mizuho HF handhelds. OEM versions of THP equipment, such as the Kantronics and Amp Supply Co. branded versions of the Series 100 HF monoband transceivers are, of course, also fair discussion topics.

The reflector is for the amiable sharing of ideas, so... the list moderator (a/k/a the list Mom) asks that everyone please be courteous and respectful of one another. I know that's hard sometimes, but let's all try to agree on maintaining a civil tone even when we disagree, OK? Let's also try to be helpful, especially to newcomers to the hobby. Also, let's try to keep on topic. If you need to discuss something unrelated to Tokyo Hy-Power equipment, please move the discussion to private e-mail.

Up until now, this has been the most civil reflector or mailing list I have ever been privileged to be a part of. I think we'd all like to keep it that way. There is a very short list of things that are absolutely poor netiquette at best, and potentially harmful to the reflector, which simply won't be allowed. The List Mom can be a real bi*** about these, so let's all avoid them, OK? They include:

Failure to be civil and follow these simple guidelines can result in suspension or banning from the reflector.
